Typical numerical values are given for (a) human umbilical vein endothelial cells HUVEV or fibroblasts, and (b) cryopreserved HEK 293 cells. The targets are a sample-cell suspension with a cell-count concentration of 10 to 40 MxβmL-1; a final cell-count concentration of 1 MxβmL-1 in the respirometer chamber, which may be reduced to 0.5 MxβmL-1; a subsample titration volume of vstocki = 0.1 mL to 0.5 mL into the 0.5- or 2.0-mL experimental chamber; and a wet cell mass of about 1 mg for gravimetric measurement or other assays. For HUVEC with a radius of 6.8 Β΅m of the spherical suspended cells, the elementary cell volume VUce is 0.0013 nLβx-1 (1300 fLβx-1; Gnaiger 2003), and at a cell density of 1.06 Β΅gβnLΒ-1, the elementary cell mass MUce is 1.38 mgβMx-1 (equivalent to ngβx-1).
