MITOEAGLE Feedback
- We investigate connexins function on the process of diseases. We have recently started a project in order to find and design new molecules to target Cx43 and Cx26. We have access to human samples and animal models to test those molecules. We focus our research on the pathophysiology and treatment options for osteoarthritis, wound healing, melanoma and breast cancer. It has been demonstrated that localization of connexin43 (Cx43) is pivotal for mitochondrial function. It has been reported that mitochondrial Cx43 is required for optimal mitochondrial ATP-production. In fact, mitochondrial Cx43 is essential for the ischemic preconditioning which offers potent protection against repercussion injury. The existence of mitochondrial Cx43 raises a number of new questions. - Maria D. Mayan (2016).
